PENCILS BEFORE PIXELS

My philosophy

You might be wondering about my stance on pencils or pixels, especially if you’ve read about how I advocate for doing things the ‘old-school way’.

I thought it was worth sharing where I’m coming from.

I have actually — and perhaps ironically — spent years working in digital media in the creative industries. And don’t get me wrong — digital is brilliant. It makes things easier, faster, and there are tools and software I genuinely love.

However, I always find myself coming back to what I loved as a child.

Writing and drawing.

Pencils and paper.

Watercolours and paints.

And don’t get me started on art and stationery shops — I love them! They’re full of notebooks, sketchbooks, sparkly pens, and things I love so much I almost don’t want to use them!

And I think creative ideas work better when they begin by hand, rather than on a shiny screen.

That doesn’t mean I’m anti-digital — far from it. I use digital tools every day, and they absolutely have their place.

But digital overwhelm is a real thing, and like many people, I get tired of it quickly. I find that doing things the old-school way with my creative projects works better for me.

So there you have it! That’s the philosophy behind my wee business here.
